Healey Mills Online (www.HealeyMills.com)

Hmmmm.... Where do I start. Let's start with the website (www.healeymills.com)is now back up and running. The MessageBoard is also now back up.

Thus far it has only been possible to restore the site to Sepetmber 12th. I am currently awaiting a response from the hosts of the site as to when they can restore the site to 11th November (The day before the database was wiped). I don't hold out much hope for this and this is the reason why I have restored it from a Master backup that I had. I was under the impression that the site was backed up by the host every night but judging from their response (none received three days after my request) I don't think they care. It seems they have bigger Fish to fry.

As a result of this I will be moving the site to a more customer friendly provider in February when the contract runs out. This won't affect the site data but it will make the site easier to restore should it become corrupt. The company that it will be hosted by offer Disater Recovery and more imprortantly can be contacted via Telephone.

It appears that the site was hacked and all the data tables erased. Luckily I had a backup..... The reason the database was wiped down to myself as I didn't remove a file after the install. This left the site open for hacking. Sad but true.

I am currently in the process of restoring the Picture Gallery and will shortly be uploading the Links to the various Healey Mills Picture Galleries that people have with Fotopics.

Unfortunately, if you registered on the site after the 12th September your details have been lost so you will need to register again.

To avoid this in the future I will be backing the site up weekly as well as the hosts backing up daily from February.

Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing?

Webmaster

Hindsight is always 20/20 vision!!!

Why would anybody want to hack into the site(sight?) and destroy the files?

I'm not sure why the would want to delete the database files. Probably for the same reason they would write a virus that crashes PC's...... For the fun?
