Just heard that as part of their current rationalisation, EW&S are considering the closure of Healey Mills by the end of 2005.
Nothing certain as yet, but the information was given to me by a Level 4 Senior Manager within the company.

I'll keep you all posted.

PS
Do any of you get together for a drink (swap stories etc) on a fairly regular basis?

Does this mean the end for Marcroft as well? What options do EWS have?

MARCROFT ENGINEERING are completely seperate from EWS. Why should the closure of Healey Mills Yard affect the Wagon works?????

Have the people who post on this site ever been to Healey Mills??? If they had surely they would know that Marcroft is not connected to the yard it is connected to the Up L&Y (or mainline for all of those who aren't in the know) by means of the goods loop. So they could napalm the yard if they like but unless EWS intend on shutting the mainline aswell Marcroft will remain..............

Of interest aswell, EWS technically doesnt own the yard, it is on a 99 year lease from Network Rail.
